“This one is special to me because I made it and the art on a day where I wasn’t in the best shape mentally. It’s kinda like a mind over matter thing for me, originally it was suppose to be called mental health”

How and when did you learn how to make beats?
 1
I started making beats at 17 during my senior year of highschool and I learned through listening to other music and youtube tutorials. I discovered J Dilla’s music a year prior and it influenced me to start making music just like his. But my style has since evolved. I torrented a copy of fl studio and I’ve been making music ever since. I also believe that my music and art comes from a child like sense of wonder & curiosity. Listening and making music puts me in a calm state of zen even if i’m making something pretty hype. I just want to be able to provide those feelings for myself and others who may need it.

How and when did you start making art? Do or did you experiment with other media?
 1
I’ve been making art since I was a kid. I started drawing anime pictures and making comics with my brother Dan∆log for fun. I’ve done a lot of different art such as drawing, painting, sculpting, photography and collage art being my favorite type of art as well as what i’m known most for. I also graduated with an associates in print & web based graphic design.

“This song is probably my personal favorite because of its composition and my sound design work. Also my most popular beat on soundcloud. The mindset i was in when creating this track was just perfect to me”

Who or what are your biggest artistic or aesthetic influences? Who are your favorite producers? Favorite rappers?
 1
I have a lot of art influences such as thelowkeytheory and artxman  who both have influenced my current style of art. They’ve got a unique way of putting images together, but my favorite artists are between Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. As far as producers go there’s just so many lol but Toro y Moi, teebs,Samiyam, and James Blake are pretty high on my list. Some of my favorite rappers are Earl Sweatshirt, DUCKWRTH, Chester Watson, MF Doom, Afrocat (va native), Kendrick Lamar, and SlumVillage and many more.

What’s the meaning behind the j0eru-rare pInts split? Is it as simple as more standard vs experimental?
 1
Oh I love plants even though i can’t take care of them the way I would like to because of the lack of direct sunlight where I live. But I made rare plnts a side project that consists of music made using my mini nova synthesizer. Originally, I wanted rare plnts to be more of a dance music kind of thing but it didn’t work out that way. So far I’ve posted only 3 songs but I plan to delve deeper into that when i have the time.

Any projects in the works you’d like to talk about?
 1
Me and my bro Dan∆log are working on “the joy of beatmaking 2” which will be sample-based hip hop / vapor wave/ trap-type beats. Other than that, I have songs that I’ll release through soulfulxnature which is a label that gave me a platform to perform dj sets and my music live. (Love you Olly & Brando). I just try to make beats when I can but I don’t see myself coming out with another full project till 2018.
